Recticel Insulation UK Ltd is part of the Recticel Group, a leading European provider of high-performance acoustic and thermal insulation for both residential and non-residential buildings. Their products are regarded as a key asset in the fight against climate change, due to their positive impact on energy conservation, emissions reduction, indoor climate management, and improved living standards.
Recticel’s sustainability journey began in 2013, and the company has repeatedly updated their objectives with more ambitious targets, reflecting their commitment to becoming an ever more sustainable company.
Brown Recycling has been supporting Recticel with a cardboard hook lift collection service for several years, along with a rebate system for the cardboard waste that has helped both reduce their waste management costs and generated an income stream from the recycling process.
Recticel’s wider waste management partnership with Brown Recycling began when Christie Dykes, one of our Business Development Managers at Brown Recycling, met their team to discuss their waste management requirements. Charlie Hunt, a purchaser at Recticel, was looking for a recycling solution for the dust waste produced from plastic shavings and turnings, which had previously been sent to landfill—an option that was neither environmentally friendly nor cost-effective – and asked for our advice.
Christie collected a sample of the waste, which was tested by a chemist to determine its components. The results showed that it was a non-hazardous material that could be shredded using our XR shredder and converted into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) at our Sneyd Hill waste facility. The resulting RDF would then be transported to an EfW (Energy from Waste) facility and transformed into biomass used to heat homes, providing Recticel with an attractive circular economy solution for their dust waste.
Christie also suggested a 3-month trial period for Recticel to experience the efficiency of Brown Recycling’s comprehensive waste management services and the high standards they could expect if they decided to change suppliers.
At the end of the successful trial, we were delighted to take over Recticel’s waste management, introducing specialised skips and wheelie bins tailored for the various waste types they were producing.
We now support Reticel with our full zero waste to landfill service. This directly supports their environmental and sustainability strategy and its alignment the UN Sustainable Development Goals of maximising recyclability and eliminating waste.
When our waste contract was due for renewal, Brown Recycling were the obvious choice. Not only did they offer us better value for money, they also offered us a more reliable service.
The change over between suppliers was seamless thanks to the proactivity of the Brown Recycling team. We have a waste stream which will stop production if it isn’t serviced on time, and they provide the flexibility we need to ensure we can keep running.
They were very open and honest, happy to show us around their facilities and provide all the duty of care documentation we needed for our different waste streams including hazardous waste.
Their portal is a great tool to access everything in one place. We can download details such as waste collected and how it was processed, which is important in helping us demonstrate our Net Zero target.
I would recommend Brown Recycling to anyone looking for a reliable and helpful waste management service.
