Our Testimonials
“The team went above and beyond”

We are hugely grateful to Brown Recycling for their help on DIY SOS: The Big Build in Stoke. Dave and the team went above and beyond to clear the site and then bring in other suppliers who also supported this great cause. Thanks to the generosity of countless suppliers and volunteers, Stoke now has a community centre that will support its residents for many years to come.

– Matt Skilton, series producer for DIY SOS: The Big Build
“Flexibility and reliability”

Brown Recycling took over the management of all our waste earlier this year and we have formed an excellent relationship. They are keen on all recycling so we have a much greener approach to the handling our waste which can vary from surplus food from the restaurants or bottles and cans from the bars to stable waste. We appreciate their flexibility and reliability which is so important for a busy operation like ours when no two weeks are the same.

Hazardous Waste FAQs
Do I need to have asbestos removed professionally?

Asbestos is extremely dangerous and has to be removed carefully by a properly trained professional. Never try to deal with asbestos yourself.

Do you carry out site surveys before work begins?

Yes, with hazardous waste, we will always carry out a survey and testing. We will then provide a full report at the end.

Is the asbestos removed and taken away all in one trip?

No, the asbestos will be removed and secured in a waste container in one trip, and then collected and disposed of in another.

What is a consignment note?

When hazardous waste is moved it must be accompanied by correctly completed paperwork called a consignment note. A consignment note is proof that a registered and licensed waste carrier has removed the waste, and passed this on to be correctly disposed of.

What is classed as hazardous waste?

Hazardous waste is any material, which is harmful to humans or the environment. Some hazardous waste can be dangerous to touch, ingest or inhale – this type of waste must be kept separate from regular waste. All waste categorised as hazardous must be dealt with properly and compliantly.

What types of hazardous waste do you deal with?

Our team is trained to deal with all kinds of waste, including asbestos, fluorescent tubes, printer cartridges, lead batteries, oil, aerosols and solvents, tyres, fridges, and more!

Who is responsible for hazardous waste removal?

As a business, you have a legal responsibility to ensure that you produce, store, transport and dispose of your business waste without harming the environment. This is called your duty of care. At Brown Recycling, we will organise the transportation and documentation required for the disposal of hazardous waste but you will need to get in touch to arrange this.

What hazardous materials can’t go in the skip?

There are some materials which cannot be placed into the skip, which include:

  • Oil and petrol
  • Asbestos
  • Printing inks
  • Liquid and clinical waste
  • Gas bottles
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • White goods and refrigerators
  • Solvents
  • Televisions and computer screens
  • Creosote
