Number 11

Having donated £1,000 to one of our valued local charities earlier this year, we were pleased to continue supporting them through our ongoing partnership.

Number 11 Burslem supports individuals facing a wide range of complex challenges, including low confidence and self-esteem. To counter this, their team organises days out and learning opportunities designed broaden horizons and encourage personal growth. When they asked if we could host a site visit at Brown Recycling for some of their service users, we were delighted to showcase some of our waste management operations in action.

The visit gave members the opportunity to see our recycling operations up close, including our RDF shredder at our Sneyd Hill headquarters, and the Florida and Nevada facilities, while learning more about the waste and recycling industry in a safe, supportive environment.

From just one morning spent at Brown Recycling, Collette Cooper, Support Worker for the charity, observed the dedication of those working in the waste management industry up close. She said:

“Everyone had a great time, and we learnt so much gaining a newfound respect for recycling and waste management and all the fabulous work that goes on behind the scenes. Thank you to Brown Recycling for a fabulous and informative visit to your site.”

It wasn’t just the members who gained lots of new perspectives either. Helped by the Brown Recycling team’s passion, generosity, and genuine insights into their roles, Collette and Operations Director Rob Stanway who were part of the visiting party commented how they were able to take lots of new information away from the visit, citing the culture and ethos as shining examples of how a local business should conduct itself.

Speaking about the longer-term impact this will have on Number 11, Rob added:

“The site visit to Brown Recycling will not only benefit those that attended but provide a platform for further discussion and growth back within the centre and with other members, volunteers and staff.

Browns dedication not only to their quality standards within the recycling industry, but to how they support the local economy, businesses and voluntary sector can only be seen as a standard of excellence to be aspired to. A huge thank you from Number11.”

For Brown Recycling, it was equally fantastic to play a small part in helping the members step out of their comfort zone and gain new experiences. The visit was led by our HSEQ Manager James Young and Marketing Manager Jordan Gardner, who were ably assisted by Steve Clarke, Ashley Birchall, and Carl Newman, the site managers at Sneyd Hill, Florida Close and Nevada Lane, respectively.
