Packaged Waste Containers and Recycling

Packaged waste refers to waste materials that are stored and transported in containers such as:

  • Drums
  • IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers)
  • Waste safes
  • Boxes
  • Pallets

Packaged waste can be hazardous or non-hazardous, depending on its chemical and physical properties. It is most commonly prevalent in the manufacturing, automotive, construction, laboratories, healthcare, and facilities management industries.

Hazardous packaged waste is waste that presents a risk to human health or the environment due to being toxic, flammable, corrosive, reactive, or environmentally harmful.

Common examples include:

  • Chemicals and solvents
  • Paints, varnishes, and adhesives
  • Oils and lubricants
  • Acids and alkalis
  • Pesticides and agrochemicals
  • Contaminated packaging
  • Batteries and electrical waste
  • Clinical and laboratory waste

If you are unsure whether your packaged waste is hazardous, we can arrange chemist services that can assess, classify, and advise on correct handling and disposal, alongside comprehensive laboratory analysis. Simply get in touch with us.

If you need to store large quantities or drums of hazardous liquids or chemicals, then you need to use UN-approved containers such as closed top waste drums and IBCs.
