Brown Recycling Win Prestigious Industry Award

We are delighted to announce our success in the 2024 Let’s Recycle Awards for Excellence, one of the most prestigious annual awards for the waste management and recycling industry.

We were declared the winner of the Waste Management Initiative in the Retail, Commercial & Public Sector Award. Our submission highlighted the outstanding work done through a joint initiative with Geocycle to drive waste recycling and sustainability in Staffordshire’s ceramic industry.

In this innovative recycling partnership, we collect pitcher waste from various pottery businesses in Staffordshire, including renowned names such as Steelite, Churchill, and Wedgewood. This waste is then processed and crushed at our Florida Close materials recycling facility. The processed waste is transported to Geocycle’s cutting-edge Lafarge Cauldon Cement Plant, where it replaces the usual quarried virgin shale in cement production, serving as an alternative raw material (ARM).

Not only does this benefit the environment but it also creates economic opportunities by promoting resource efficiency and a secure and sustainable recycling route for pottery manufacturers in the region, with all activity occurring within a 20-mile radius across Staffordshire.

The Let’s Recycle Awards for Excellence, now in their 21st year, recognise innovation, dedication, and success in the recycling and waste industry. Entries are judged by a panel of experts, with winners selected for outstanding achievements in recycling, reuse, and waste reduction by both the waste management provider and their customers.

We were also finalists in the Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year category, which recognised our efforts in setting the standard for excellence in waste management and sustainability.

Commenting on the win, Mitch Brown, Co-Managing Director of Brown Recycling, said “We were delighted to be shortlisted for two of the Let’s Recycle Awards in Excellence and thrilled to be announced as the winner of the Waste Management Initiative category award. This reflects the efforts and hard work the whole team at Brown Recycling has put in to making the innovative pitcher waste recycling project with Geocycle such a success. And it is great to have our efforts towards a greener, more sustainable future for Staffordshire and beyond recognised by our industry peers.”
