Dougie Mac: Canoe Challenge

Dougie Mac, a hospice founded in 1973 and located in Stoke-on-Trent, offers essential hospice services at no cost to more than 3,500 patients every year who are dealing with life-limiting illnesses. Additionally, the hospice provides supportive care for their families and caregivers.

Brown Recycling have been long-standing supporters of Dougie Mac, helping raise much needed funds directly and through event sponsorship.

In 2023, Rod and Mitch Brown from Brown Recycling, teamed up with a group of friends to embark on a 3-day and 60-mile canoe challenge through the waterways of the Scottish Highlands. This challenge, usually spread over 5 days, took the team from Inverness to Fort William with the final stretch from Dochgarroch to Inverness down the River Ness, a white-water canoe route. The team were also self-supporting, transporting all their equipment and supplies for the trip.

Despite having to endure horrendous rain and wind for 72-hours and wild camping every night the team succeeded in completing the challenge in the allotted 3 days.
Not only was this a tremendous feat of endurance but an impressive £42, 172 was raised for Dougie Mac in the process.

In 2022 Brown Recycling’s commitment to supporting Dougie Mac over the years has been recognised with a prestigious Platinum Partnership Award, reserved for businesses that contribute between £20,000 and £50,000 in fundraising efforts for the hospice.
