Brown Recycling is proud to announce that we have been named winners of the ‘Business in the Community Award’ at the Staffordshire University Business Awards 2025.
This year’s awards showcased the very best of what Staffordshire has to offer, with 224 entries across 13 categories and more than 90 businesses attending the celebration at the University’s Catalyst Building. Our category alone attracted 25 outstanding businesses, making this recognition even more special.

The Business in the Community Award celebrates companies that show a genuine and lasting commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG). For Brown Recycling, this reflects our work supporting grassroots sports clubs, fundraising for local and national charities, providing free skips for community projects, and raising awareness around important causes such as men’s mental health. In 2024 alone, our team raised more than £11,000 for good causes, launched the Skip Art Challenge, and continued to sponsor and volunteer at the Dougie Mac Treecycle fundraiser, helping to raise over £28,000.
Speaking after the win, Chairman Rod Brown said:
“Being recognised for our work in the community means a huge amount to us. At Brown Recycling, we believe that business should be a force for good – not just in the services we provide, but in the difference we make to people’s lives. Staffordshire is our home, and we’re committed to giving back to the communities that have supported us for nearly a century. This award is really a reflection of the passion and generosity of our team, who never hesitate to roll up their sleeves and get involved with every community initiative we support.
While it’s one night of recognition, it represents months and months of preparation, hard work and a can-do attitude from a team who quietly go about their business, representing Brown Recycling proudly every day.”

We would like to congratulate all the other winners, including Woolcool who won the main category and Alice Charity who secured ‘Charity Business in the Community’alongside us, and to thank the sponsors and organisers for hosting such a fantastic event.
This accolade joins our previous success at the 2024 Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards, where we were proud to be crowned Overall Business of the Year – further recognition of the impact we strive to make both in business and in our community.
