Due to new waste regulations introduced in 2023, plasterboard cannot be mixed in with other waste in skips. Plasterboard is accepted in our skips as long as is separated into pre-paid sacks to guarantee segregation. Contact us to order your sacks. Alternatively, for larger volumes, we can offer plasterboard only skips.
Once collected from site, the waste is then sent for further reprocessing at gypsum recycling facilities and put back into industry for the manufacturing of new plasterboard.
It is a legal requirement to separate your plasterboard for recycling; this is because it can release harmful gases when mixed with biodegradable waste. The gypsum contained in the plasterboard is the key factor here.
Gypsum, typically used in creating plasterboard, is a soft white or grey mineral. It is found in layers of sedimentary rock and is non-toxic, however, if it is buried and left in a moisture-rich environment, such as a landfill site, it releases harmful gases as it decomposes.
Both individuals and businesses can be fined for not separating and recycling their plasterboard properly. A fine or additional charge will be applied to your recycling cost due to the higher disposal costs incurred when the entire load is categorised as contaminated.
