Work on the intu Potteries shopping centre required time and cost-effective waste management throughout the construction to ensure the project was delivered on time and within budget. Working alongside Wates Construction, the professionals at Brown Recycling were instrumental in the smooth operation of the process.
Who are Wates Construction?
Working alongside us in this project was Wates Construction, who have become one of the largest privately-owned construction companies in the UK, since their establishment in 1897. With over 4,000 staff and working with over 10,000 supply chain operatives, they are able to deliver a wide scope of projects, including work for commercial businesses and councils.
Of their time working with Brown Recycling, Wates Construction commented that we “contributed greatly in enabling us to complete this project within the required timeframe through offering prompt and efficient emptying of waste containers. We would definitely consider them as our waste partner for future contracts”.
Our challenges were wide-ranging, but the primary aim was to manage the costs to stay within the budget the client had set out.
We also wanted to ensure the operational efficiency of the site was maximised through ensuring the waste was dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. This was also in line with the aim to minimise the movement of on-site vehicles.
Not only this, but we also wanted to ensure that environmental performance was enhanced to enable us to provide proof of environmental best practice.
Brown Recycling Solution
From the very start of the project, we were committed to providing a competitive proposal and a bespoke solution tailored to the individual waste streams of the project.
We ensured a zero waste to landfill solution for our client, and returned revenue for materials where applicable. We also ensured that our waste management was an easy, streamlined solution, and we made sure to provide appropriate signage to promote segregation of waste.
Alongside Wates Construction, our specialists were able to complete the project with success. The intu Potteries project saw many financial and environmental benefits from working with Brown Recycling, including:
- Zero waste sent to landfill
- C. 529t Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)
- C. 265k kwh (net) electrical energy generated through RDF
- C. 47t other waste recovered
- £43k saved via landfill tax avoidance
- Minimal carbon footprint due to using a local waste company
- C. 10.5k landfill gas saved
