Tile Mountain

The Tile Mountain Group, headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, is a rapidly growing UK tiling retailer, with branches across the country.

Brown Recycling contacted Tile Mountain Group in 2016 to gauge their interest in a total waste management solution for their growing business, one that would help them manage the various waste streams across their diverse locations throughout the UK.

The challenge

When we first started working with Tile Mountain, they initially used our skip and hook-lift hire services, along with trade waste services, at their then main site in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. As the business expanded in 2016, they moved to a 120,00 square foot warehouse, showroom, and office complex in 2017.

With the opening of the new site, Tile Mountain experienced a rise in waste volumes, notably in cardboard and general waste, prompting them to look for to explore more cost-effective and efficient waste solutions for the whole complex.

The Group’s growth and the opening of new branches throughout the UK, also meant the business now required a dependable waste management supplier that could offer a tailored approach to their various sites and their unique needs.

The solution

Our Tile Mountain Key Account Manager at Brown Recycling, Paddy Cox, undertook a site visit to their new headquarters to assess their expanded waste management requirements.

He proposed implementing a MX600 Vertical Mill-Size Baler for cardboard and a Powerkrush 85 static compactor for general waste at the Stoke-on-Trent site. In combination these would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their waste management.

The outcome

The MX600 Vertical Baler is equipped with a lifting mechanism that allows for the direct placement of a bale onto a pallet for ease of use whilst ensuring a safer process for bailing cardboard compared to previous methods. Moreover, the baler has significantly increased productivity, completing a cycle in just 53 seconds, decreasing both the time and money spend on bailing waste on-site.

Furthermore, Tile Mountain now has in place a rebate system which due to the improved quality of their bales is generating extra revenue for the company from their cardboard waste.

The Powerkrush 85 is a robust compactor designed specifically for intensive industrial use. It’s efficient waste compaction maximises the compactor’s capacity. The Powerkrush has allowed Tile Mountain to accommodate three time more waste in a hook-lift container, leading to substantial waste disposal and transportation costs savings.

And with waste services for all Tile Mountain’s locations consolidated under a sole point of contact – Brown Recycling – the company now has a more straightforward and easier to manage solution for their waste. It has also provided assurance in terms of both compliance and competitive pricing across all locations.
