Zero Waste to Landfill

The UK’s current waste management strategy proposes that, by 2035, municipal waste to landfill will be at 10% or less. Here at Brown Recycling, we don’t just want to help to reach those targets – we want to exceed them. Not only to create a greener industry, but to create a more sustainable future for everyone.

This is our goal: zero waste to landfill. That’s right, the ultimate goal for Brown Recycling is to become 100% landfill free, diverting all waste that we collect and process to become recycled or repurposed goods.

But why do we want to hit this target? Well, the benefits are twofold. Firstly, we ensure that as little waste as possible enters landfill sites, protecting the environment from gases produced by the waste as well as any contamination to the local area. Secondly, the reuse of materials goes a long way towards preventing the unnecessary use of virgin materials such as wood, stone and natural fuel, protecting natural environments for years to come.

So, how close are we to achieving this goal? Pretty close. Over the last 5 years, we have extensively invested in recycling and energy from waste recovery technology. Our state-of-the-art facilities are currently able to consistently work to a 98% landfill diversion figure. Something we’re pretty proud of.

Whether we’re recycling cardboard and plastic from events like V Festival, or providing RDF for energy-from-waste plants, all of our waste management services help us get closer to our zero waste to landfill promise.
